Basic conditions for obtaining a residence permit in Hong Kong

Application for a residence permit (visa) for entrepreneurs, it can be submitted if the following conditions are met:

The applicant is the founder of a business in Hong Kong

The applicant has a good education, proven professional abilities and/or relevant experience and achievements, documented

The applicant’s business can make a significant contribution to the development of the Hong Kong economy

Any business in Hong Kong can apply – a business that has been working for many years or a startup.

Required documents from the Applicant for a residence permit/business visa

Completed form ID999A. (Active form, a PDF file will be uploaded here).

A recent photo of the applicant (attached to the form ID 999A).

A valid ID card, including pages about the countries visited.

Copies of diplomas, as well as documents on professional activity as proof of relevant education and experience.

Documents on the Applicant’s financial situation (bank statements) to demonstrate that the Applicant has sufficient financial resources to maintain and develop a business in Hong Kong.

The applicant must provide documentary evidence of the amount of investments in Hong Kong. The Immigration Department will consider whether the amount of investment is able to support the business. The number of jobs created locally.

An employment contract with a company in Hong Kong, a decision on appointment to a position.

Required documents from a company in Hong Kong

Company documents: business registration certificate, valid business registration certificate, forms NNC1, NAR1.

Licenses, certificates for doing business in Hong Kong.

An employment contract between you and the Applicant (indicating your position, salary and other benefits).

The latest audited financial statements (balance sheet, profit and loss statement, income tax declaration).

A business plan that contains detailed information about the proposed commercial activity, the amount of investment, job creation, opening of an office/showroom/warehouse with a planning horizon of 2 years (including income statement, cash flow statement and balance sheet). If necessary, the Immigration Department will seek advice from a government agency or a professional organization to evaluate the business plan and contribution to the economy of Hong Kong.

Evidence of the company’s business activities, such as copies of contracts, invoices, or proof of planned transactions;

Presentation documents with detailed information about the company, such as commercial activities, operating hours, company history, product range, sales markets, membership in the Chamber of Commerce (if any), etc. (supported by catalogs, brochures, etc.).

If the applicant conducts the relevant business abroad or has joined a business in Hong Kong, he/she must provide a profit and loss statement and a balance sheet showing the business turnover and profit for the previous year.

Lease agreements for office space/warehouse/retail or industrial space.

Confirmation of hiring local employees (for example, payment to the Mandatory Provident Fund).

The organizational structure of the business, the required number of employees and positions based on the nature and scale of the business. The number and level of jobs actually created.

Introduction of new technologies or skills (if applicable). The applicant must explain how the new technology can affect the Hong Kong economy, as well as the patent.

Required documents from the sponsor

To apply for a residence permit, the applicant must appoint a local sponsor. The sponsor can be an individual or a legal entity.

If the sponsor is an individual, then he must meet the criteria:

  • be 18 years of age or older;
  • be a resident of Hong Kong; and
  • be familiar with the applicant.

And also, provide documents:

  • Copy of HK ID
  • A copy of the passport of a Hong Kong citizen.
  • Completed form Form ID 999B

If the sponsor is a legal entity in Hong Kong:

  • Filled in Form ID 999B (active link, PDF file will be uploaded)
  • Certificate of business registration
  • Audited financial statements and income tax return
